Lead guitarist Ben Lundy started playing at 13, and gigging in cover bands at the age of 15. His first lesson was from Pete Friesen, guitarist in Alice Cooper’s band who used to play with Ben’s dad in The River Gods. Ben studied guitar at the Academy of Contemporary Music, a prestigious music school in Guildford where many of the teachers are name performers who have Been There and Done That.
Ben’s big influences are the 70s and 80s classic rock bands from Iron Maiden to Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Deep Purple. He’s actually seen Iron Maiden four times! Not surprisingly his favourite guitarists include Zakk Wylde, Gary Moore, Richie Faulkner and Rafael Moreira.
Ben’s best-ever gig was a 2008 Deep Purple show at the Excel Centre, not least because he met his future wife there! In over 100 gigs Ben has never broken a string on stage but we have no doubt that if he did, he would still play a blinding solo on the ones he had left.
In true Spinal Tap style, Ben once got lost backstage at an O2 Academy gig in Sheffield. From a burning house he’d find time to save all his Les Pauls – he currently has four of them!
